Arts, entertainment groups expand Triangle
offerings
Triangle Business Journal - July 28, 2006
Strengthening the creative ecosystem
RALEIGH–Designbox, a team of independent creative professionals based in Raleigh,
wants
to
see the Triangle be crowned the creative hub of the South.
To help the region snare that title, Designbox is hosting a conference focused on improving
our
creative climate. Spark Con will offer workshops, lectures and gatherings between
Sept. 14 to 17 in
various locations around the Triangle, with downtown Raleigh as home
base this year.
"There is a whole ecosystem that needs to... work together to support a creative environment,"
says Aly Khalifa, a founding member of Designbox. "We've got a terrific set of those components
here, but we have not yet integrated them."
This year's program will focus on four major areas of the creative food chain: independent
businesses, the arts, high-tech research and development, and inclusive culture.
Spark Con will also celebrate local creative talent through showcases and events at venues
throughout the Triangle. From laboratory tours to fashion shows, the conference will feature
those
who are using creativity in vital and novel ways.
Registration is open to the public through Aug. 28. For more information visit
www.sparkcon.com.
