Bill Thelen, Lump Gallery

thelenBill Thelen is the Director of Lump gallery/projects and most recently of Lumpwest in Eugene, OR. Lump began is 1996 and recently celebrated it's ten year anniversary. Thelen is also an artist himself, who works under the moniker of Lump Lipshitz. His work has been reviewed in Artforum, Sculpture, The New York Times, Art Papers, The News and Observer, The Drama among others. He has been exhibited locally, nationally and internationally and is currently represented by Branch Gallery in Durham, NC. He received his BFA from the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and his MFA in 2000 from UNC in Chapel Hill. He is Assistant Professor of Art at St. Augustine's College here in Raleigh.


Steve Popson, KINGS

Steve Popson is owner of KINGS, a live music venue in downtown Raleigh that hosts national and local music acts, as well as other events such as film screenings, plays, fundraisers, and other events. He is also marketing coordinator for the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, the most visited museum in the state, as well as the largest science museum in the Southeast. His job there is to promote the museum's institutional mission and major initiative, to increase participation in Museum programs, and to build support in the community, and improve museum offerings through collaborative partnerships.
        A musician in his own right, Popson was bass player for rock band, Polvo. He recorded seven albums and toured the US and Europe extensively with the band during the 90's. Currently, he performs with the band Black Taj.


Introducing Bill Thelen is Jim Lee

Jim is an artist who’s interests range from sound installations to photography. His sound sculptures, gourd sculptures, photographs, audio installations, and other artworks have been seen and heard in galleries, juried shows, invited shows, commissions and private collections throughout the Triangle. Jim is a Visiting Lecturer in the Film, Video and Digital Program at Duke where he teaches audio theory and production. He is also involved with SeeSaw Studio, an after school art and design program for Durham youth. He serves as both a board member and as an artist/mentor with SeeSaw. Jim holds a Ph.D. in Communication Research from UNC-CH where he focused on issues of technology and social change. He did his undergraduate work at NCSU.
